What are the main news, trends and innovations in your market or sector?
After two exceptional years with a strong growth of e-commerce between 2020 and 2021 linked to the health context, we observe a slowdown at the beginning of 2022 for the whole market: -5% of orders in the first half of 2022 vs. the first half of 2021. However, this trend should be put into perspective with the first half of 2022 32% higher than the first half of 2019*.
At the same time, e-commerce purchases have accelerated and this trend will continue over time. In 2021, 91% of French households received a parcel related to an e-commerce purchase (+3 pts vs. 2020). More online orders and therefore more packages received: the average number of packages received following an online purchase reached 26.3 parcels/year, i.e. 4 more packages than in 2020. And more diversified parcels : 54% of households have purchased more than 6 different product categories (+2 points vs. 2020).**
This growth requires delivery companies to be responsive and constantly adaptable.
Moreover, this growth cannot be achieved without taking into account environmental and societal issues. French e-buyers are increasingly connected and committed to a more sustainable e-commerce.
